Study Programs

Study Programs In the process of life-long learning, we connect in deeper and deeper ways with God, with ourselves, and with each other. Together we create a safe place in which we can ask our most important questions. Together we try to hear how God is calling us to live and act in the world.
John Wesley, founder of Methodism, wrote about faith being a balance of  ‘Scripture, Tradition, Reason, and Experience.’ Our small groups and classes explore that balance, and many engage in some form of community service.

We offer opportunities for biblical learning, skills development, spiritual growth, confidence-building, gift-discernment, friendship, mutual support, and ministry exploration; such as:

1. Short-term, Small Group Studies
These groups are generally 4 – 8 weeks in length, and change seasonally. Some will be more biblical, some more topical, some focused on leadership development…Check our calendar and newsletter to see current offerings! Groups may meet at the church, in homes, or in community settings.

2. Disciple Bible Study
“Disciple” is an extensive biblical survey, running for 32 weeks. Our Disciple group began in January and meets Sunday evenings at the parsonage.

3. United Methodist Women
The UMW is a long established group that meets monthly for friendship, learning, and service. They are centered on an excellent and wide-ranging reading program and on support of local and international missions.

4. Confirmation
Young people 13 years and older are invited to reflect on and explore the Christian faith as they decide for themselves whether or not to take on the challenge and excitement of the Christian life and full church membership. The group meets once a month for a Friday night sleep-over, adopts adult mentors, goes on periodic field trips, and keeps in touch through a special facebook site.

5. Membership Classes
From time to time three-session adult membership classes are offered for those new to the church who are considering baptism and/or church membership.

6. Musicals, Drama & Cantatas
Periodically, we highlight the story and meaning of special seasons in the church year through these group performances. Sometimes topical and biblical ‘skits’ are woven into regular morning worship.

7. Chancel Choir
The choir sings most Sundays from September through June, practicing Sunday mornings at 9:45 and Thursday evenings at 7:15. We work hard, but the work is fun, and you don’t have to be a professional to sing – all you need is a love of music! The choir is also a small group for weekly prayer and mutual support.

8. Sunday School
Every Sunday morning at 9:15, the Christian education program offers two different  classes for adults, with lively discussion and exploration of biblical and topical themes.
